Once we've assessed your homelessness application
If we accept your homelessness application
We will accept your homelessness application if we're satisfied that either you're:
- legally homeless
- at risk of homelessness within 56 days.
We must confirm our decision in writing.
We will put in place a Personal Housing Plan (PHP). This plan will list:
- the steps we'll take to help you
- the steps you're expected to take.
Kent Homechoice portal
If you have an email address, we encourage you to sign up to the Kent Homechoice portal. You'll be able to:
- find your details and PHP
- update your details if anything changes.
If you cannot or do not want to sign up, we'll share your plan with you by email or post. You can choose what you prefer.
Sign up for the Kent Homechoice portal.
If we find your situation may lead to homelessness outside of 56 days
This means you're not legally at risk of homelessness.
We may continue to support you to make sure you do not become homeless in the future. We'll talk to you and offer advice on how to improve your situation.
If you're not eligible for help
You may not be eligible for direct help from us. If this happens, we'll tell you using your preferred way of contact. You should only apply for homelessness help again if your circumstances change significantly.
If you're not eligible for help, we'll still offer advice about what you can do next.
If you're not happy with our decision, you can request a review within 21 days of receiving it. View Shelter's reviews and appeals page to find out more about your rights.
