Check if a tree is protected
You can use our map to find out if a tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or is in a conservation area.

Using the interactive map
To use the map:
- go to 'address search' at the top of the map page and type in the postcode or road name of the tree
- click on the 3 horizontal lines in the top left to access the 'What would you like to do?' menu
- click on ‘map features’
- open the ‘environment’ folder by clicking the black triangle icon
- click 'Tree Preservation Orders’. The map layer will show a tick when the layer is on. If there's a TPO in the area, the map will show a green circle or polygon
- click ‘trees’. The map layer will show a tick when the layer is on. If there's a council-owned tree in the area, the map will show a tree icon
- open the ‘planning’ folder by clicking the black triangle icon
- click ‘conservation areas’. The map layer will show a tick when the layer is on. If the tree is in a conservation area, the map will show a brown polygon.

View TPO documents
Follow steps 1 to 5 in the section above titled 'Using the interactive map'. Then click on the green circle or polygon representing the TPO you're interested in.
A box will pop up showing the reference of the TPO and a link to view the related documents.
