If you find a stray dog, you can report it to us and we'll make arrangements to collect it.

Report a stray dog

Our community wardens collect stray dogs:

  • Monday to Saturday - 9am to 7pm
  • Sunday and Bank Holidays - 9am to 5pm

Find your dog

Our facebook page is updated daily with stray dogs found in Medway.

If you recognise any of the dogs as your own, you can make arrangements to collect them.

Dog owners reunited with their pets must pay a fee of £55, which includes a £25 statutory charge.

The money contributes to the cost of running the stray dog service, which includes employing staff, leasing vehicles and associated running costs and the purchase of specialist equipment. Kenneling and any vets fees may be charged separately if appropriate.

Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, local authorities are entitled to withhold a dog from its owner until all fees have been paid.

If a dog's owner isn't found

We make every effort to reunite dogs with their owners. However, if the owner cannot be identified or contacted, the dog will be held at kennels. If the dog is not claimed within 7 days, attempts will be made to rehome it.

We also run a dog fostering scheme. If you would like to become a dog fosterer, please email us at communityteam@medway.gov.uk

Medway Canine Code

We encourage all dog owners to abide by the Medway Canine Code, which will help reduce stray dogs and benefit the whole community.
