Claiming benefits
You can check if you could be entitled to benefits using GOV.UK’s benefits calculator. Or get advice from Citizens Advice or your local Jobcentre.
If you are single and under 35 and need help with the rent you may be able to get an allowance towards a room in a shared house.
People with children or over 35 who need help with the rent can get an allowance towards a flat or house.
Universal Credit will replace Housing Benefit for most working age adults from 30 May 2018.
