After the death is registered
Once the death has been registered, you may need to:
Arrange the funeral

- get help with funeral costs
- get support for child funeral costs
- find out what to do if no one can arrange the funeral
- find out what to do after the funeral
Order copies, make changes or legalise the death certificate
- order copies of the death certificate
- apply for a correction to a death certificate
- get registration documents for international use
Tell organisations about the death
- report the death without a Tell Us Once reference number
- end a Medway Council garage and/or housing tenancy
- apply for a council tax reduction
- report changes to your benefit details
- return medical equipment
- contact banks, mortgage providers, credit providers, pension or insurance providers, utility companies, private landlords, employers
- find out about the death notification service which lets you tell private organisations of the death.
Organise affairs

- find out about safe disposal of medication
- find out about digital legacy.
Check if you are entitled to bereavement benefits
- if your partner has died
- if your child died or you’ve had a stillbirth
- if you’re bringing up a child whose parents have died
Check and update your personal affairs

- find out if you need to pay inheritance tax
- check if you need to apply for probate
- deal with the estate
- update property records
- find out about memorials and tributes.
After the funeral
The register office must have confirmation and log that a funeral has taken place.
The crematorium or cemetery authority do this by completing and returning the green form to the register office once the funeral has taken place.
