Medway Tunnel maintenance

Maintenance closures occur every three months for three nights with restrictions being in place from 8pm to 6am.

They usually happen early in March, June, September and December, but can change due to requirements or other works.

Advance warning signs are displayed advising drivers of future maintenance closure dates on the approach roads to the tunnel, such as the A289.

Further advance warnings are also displayed on the motorway's Variable Message Signs (VMS).

Medway Tunnel improvements

Following our successful funding bid, improvement works will be carried out on the tunnel over the next 5 years. Where possible these will take place during our regular maintenance closures but it may be necessary to extend them or make additional closures which will be publicised when necessary.
