Before you apply to become a licensed ceremony venue

To apply for a licence, you must be the proprietor or trustee of the premises.

If you want to apply for more than one building, you must make a separate application for each building.

To be approved for a licence in Medway, the building must meet GOV.UK's requirements to be approved as a licensed venue.

The building must also:

  • have disabled access
  • have a separate room from the ceremony room for any pre-proceedings
  • have toilets
  • have space for seating in the ceremony room(s)
  • have an approved room that can be used if the outside area being applied for cannot be used (for example in bad weather)
  • have parking
  • be compliant with current health and safety requirements
  • be compliant with current fire precautions
  • be covered by current public liability insurance
  • not allow food or drink to be sold or consumed in the ceremony room an hour before the ceremony
  • have appropriate lighting for ceremonies.
