If you drive a licensed vehicle you must have them inspected before the current MOT certificate expires. If a vehicle passes its inspection, the licence will be issued to expire on the same day as the MOT, not on the last day of the month of inspection.
You must then phone the Licensing Unit to make an appointment to hand in documentation and collect the plate. You will need to bring your old external and internal plates with them or we won't give you the new plates. You must either pay for your licence by cheque on collection of the plate or by debit or credit card when you make the appointment.
You must present the vehicle for inspection and we must have received the paperwork by the due date. If you do not do this, the vehicle licence will be suspended and the drivers will not be able to use their vehicles for hire and reward.
Vehicle compliance checks and approved vehicle checks
An appointment must be made with an Enforcement Officer. There is a taxi parking space in the loading bay area specifically for this purpose that will be monitored by our security staff. Drivers must not park in this area for any other purpose unless directed by a licensing enforcement officer.
Driver licence renewals
You must send your application by post to Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TR.
You cannot send applications in person, so the application and original identification should be sent by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery.
We will ensure these are returned to drivers by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery. You cannot apply online due to an increased risk of fraud, especially identity theft.
Send your application in plenty of time as any incomplete applications will not be accepted and will be returned.
We must have your completed and correct application before the expiry of the existing licence.
An expired licence cannot be renewed. If you fail to renew the licences you will not be able to drive for hire and reward and will be committing an offence if they are found to be doing so.
The Licensing Unit sends reminder letters for the renewal of licences and inspections but is not required to do so. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that they submit the applications or vehicles by the due date.
