Social worker

I had my final social work placement in an older peoples team at Medway. The supportive and friendly team and my very hard working Practice Educator helped me to build my  confidence and skills. I felt encouraged by the support I received and wanted to complete my ASYE year in Medway. During this year, I identified local resources and built relationships. This led me to want to continue to work as a social worker beyond my ASYE.

I started work for Medway Council in 2006 as a Care Manager Assistant. Over the following years, whilst I remained employed in my substantive role, Medway Council sponsored me to undertake a BA Social Work degree. On successful completion on my degree I was employed by Medway as a Social Worker in Adult Services.

In the ensuing years, Medway has supported me to gain a Best Interest Assessor qualification and last year Medway offered me the opportunity to complete a Practice Educator Programme and an Institute of Learning and Management qualification.  The successful completion of these qualifications helped me to improve and broaden my skills and knowledge. This has enabled me to progress in my career and secure my current role as a Practice Manager in an Integrated Locality Team.
