Choosing an employer

When choosing an employer, you should look at the employment package they offer.

You may want to consider the following:

  • location of work
  • opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD)
  • career progression
  • flexible working such as working from home and remote access
  • support processes
  • health and wellbeing support schemes
  • other benefits such as pension, childcare voucher scheme and holiday allowance

Average pay for newly qualified social workers

Rates of pay vary depending on the employer. Each employer has their own employment package that they offer to new workers.

Most newly qualified staff can expect to earn between £26,000 and £30,000 per year when they start their assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE).

When choosing an employer, make sure that you do not just consider the pay. You should also consider the career progression available.
