Services, fees and charges
We act as the archive service for Medway Council and its predecessor authorities, and as a custodian for parish records generated by parishes within the Archdeaconry of Rochester and for public records of strong local interest.
We also collect, preserve and provide access to other material related to the people and places of Medway. If you have material that you think you would like to deposit with Medway Archives Centre please contact us to discuss this. Please provide as much information about the material as possible, such as amount, format and date span.
Charged services
We offer the following charged services:
- a remote research service of up to one hour if you're unable to visit in person
- digital copies of items in our collections. We offer a flatbed scanning digitisation service for material that is stable enough to be digitised. We cannot digitise bound archive material, material over A3 in size, or material that could be damaged by digitisation
- photocopier service. We cannot copy bound archive material, material over A3 in size, or material that could be damaged by copying
- printing service, from PCs and microfilm readers
- self-service photography
- copies of baptism certificates from Church of England parishes in the Archdeaconry of Rochester - provided the register has been deposited with us.
Specially designed packs of material on local subjects for groups
Educational study packs
These are designed to help pupils understand methods of historical enquiry and investigate similarities and differences between the past and today. We can also often create a bespoke pack for the specific subject you are studying. Please contact us for more information on existing study packs and bespoke packs.
Medway Memories
These packs focus on Medway within living memory. They are designed for use by residential homes, day centres, community groups and schools
Copies of existing packs can be sent free as pdfs or bought as hard copies. Please contact us for further details.
