Project aims and objectives

The aim of the bulky collection project was to create a form that was compatible with SagePay as the contract with ICON was due to expire.

Our older bulky collection eBase form was also not compatible with this payment system.

Project stages

This was an agile project using cross department skilled employees.

We worked in 3 'sprints', also known as time-boxed work periods, which included:

  • design
  • development
  • user testing.

The goal was to build small and fast.

Form build and design

Colleagues in ICT built a form that could be used by residents and officers based on requirements given by the following teams:

  • CABs
  • Digital
  • Norse
  • Waste.

Using user centred design, we made sure the form looks the same as www.medway.gov.uk and JADU forms.

The old eBase form:

  • was not mobile responsive
  • had usability issues with the item picker and calendar.

We resolved this by introducing a quick search so the user do not have to spend long searching for specific items.

We also improved the calendar by making it easier to read and use, particularly on small devices such as mobiles.

The back office functionality was tested and cross checked. Any bugs identified were also resolved and the form retested.

The form was also user tested on multiple devices including smart TVs.

Finally, the webpage and form content was simplified to make it easier for users to navigate.
