How to apply for permission
Before you apply for planning permission for a listed building or a building in a conservation area we encourage you to engage in pre-application advice.

You apply for planning permission on the Planning Portal. You’ll need to complete an online form, upload supporting documents and pay the correct fee.
When you apply online, you’ll get:
- immediate confirmation on screen
- step by step help and online advice
- an online record of all your applications
- to track your applications
Apply in writing
If you can’t apply online, you can download a paper application form from the Planning Portal.
You can send your completed form and all documents listed in our checklist to: The Planning Service, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TR.
About your data
The information you provide on the application form and in the supporting documents will be public information which will be made available on our website.
Please ensure that if you supply personal information belonging to a third party that you have their permission to do so and that any sensitive data in particular physical or mental health details are contained in a separate annex.
