Applications for works to trees

After you've applied

Once you’ve submitted your planning application you will have to wait for a decision to be made. If you've applied online you can log in to track your planning application.

After submission:

  • we will validate your application and request any missing documents - extra requirements can be found in our validation checklists
  • we publicise your application and complete any required consultations.

Decisions on your planning application

There is an 8 week processing time for a tree preservation order and a 6 week processing time for works to trees within a conservation area.

If your application is approved:

  • your approval may be ‘subject to conditions’, read your decision notice carefully 
  • you can start work within the time limit as long as you comply with any set conditions.

If your application is refused:

  • your decision notice will explain why it was refused
  • you can send a pre-application request to discuss reasons for refusal
  • you can change your proposal and resubmit.
