The crematorium

The Medway crematorium has served the people of Medway and the surrounding areas since 1959. It is owned and managed by Medway Council, which is committed to maintaining and improving the facilities to make sure they benefit everyone who visits.

The crematorium covers 14 acres and is a mix of woodland, shrub beds, formal planting and grass beneath large and stately trees.

Opening times

Please note: The Chapel of Remembrance will close 15 minutes before the times stated below.

March to October:

  • Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm
  • Saturday, 10am to 6pm
  • Sunday, 11am to 5pm

November to February:

  • Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm
  • Saturday, 10am to 4pm
  • Sunday, 11am to 4pm

All public holidays – 11am to 4pm

Office hours:

  • Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm
  • Friday, 9am to 4.30pm

Rules and guidance for visitors

In order to be respectful to our visitors please:

  • dispose of any litter
  • don’t disturb any mourners or services
  • only walk on the grass and clearly marked paths
  • be careful not to damage plants, buildings or memorials
  • only bring special assistance dogs and no other pet or animal
  • don’t offer or advertise any goods without written council permission
  • don’t pin or fix items to any trees or bury items as these will be removed

If you are leaving flowers or tributes, please note:

  • the Chapel of Mediation is cleared daily
  • the Gardens of Remembrance are cleared every Wednesday
  • flowers should be fresh with all wrappings removed
  • those not within the specified areas will be removed
  • services that run on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will have flowers and tributes cleared the Monday after the service
  • services that run on Friday and Saturday will have flowers and tributes cleared the Wednesday after the service 
  • flowers placed in vases or containers not provided by us will be removed
