Potholes Fund

The Potholes Fund is from the Department for Transport (DfT) to repair and prevent potholes.

It started with the Pothole Action Fund initiative that ran from 2016 to 2021 totalling £250 million shared across councils in England.

Since then, the DfT have allocated an amount of pothole funding each year.

In 2023 to 2024, the DfT allocated a total of £200 million for potholes funding to be shared across councils in England.

This funding is just part of the highways funding we get each year to programme scheduled resurfacing schemes, and maintain and repair roads so people can travel easily and safely in Medway.

In line with highways best practice and guidance, we take an approach of prevention is better than cure. We made the decision to spend this funding on preventative treatment schemes.
