Retention payments and market premia allowance

Retention payments will be paid at the end of April, following:

  • 2 years' service with Medway, in fostering, adoption, youth offending and 
  • 1 years’ service with Medway, in all other children's social worker roles

To qualify for the retention payment social workers:

  • need to be in post as at 31 March
  • must not have submitted a resignation prior to the payment being made
  • must be at performance level 'achieving' or above
  • and not be subject to any formal disciplinary or capability process during the year

The retention payment and market premia allowance are subject to annual review. If these are discontinued we'll give you 3 months' notice.

Medpay, social worker roles (Children's Services)

Range: NQSW

Salary: £29,590 pa

Retention payment: £2,000 upon completion of the ASYE programme

Car allowance: Essential user allowance with the option to transfer to lease car scheme following completion of a probationary period

Range: SW2

Basic salary: Up to £36,470 per year

Market premia: £2,000 per year, paid in 12 equal instalments. Payable to posts in children's services excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

Retention payment:

  • £2,000 per year. Payable after one years’ service in Medway – applies to all children’s social worker roles, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

  • £2,000 per year. Payable after two years’ service in Medway – applies to fostering, adoption and youth offending.

Car allowance: Essential user allowance with the option to transfer to lease car scheme following completion of a probationary period.

Range: SW2A

Basic salary: Up to £39,927 per year

Market premia: £2,500 per year, paid in 12 equal instalments. Applies to roles in Children’s Services, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

Retention payment:

  • £3,000 per year. Payable after one years’ service in Medway – applies to all children’s social worker roles, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

  • £2,000 per year. Payable after two years’ service in Medway – applies to fostering, adoption and youth offending.

Basic salary: Up to £44,660 per year

Market premia: £3,000 per year, paid in 12 equal instalments. Applies to roles in Children’s Services, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

  • £3,000 per year. Payable after one years’ service in Medway – applies to all children’s social worker roles, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

  • £2,000 per year. Payable after two years’ service in Medway – applies to fostering, adoption and youth offending.

Basic salary: Up to £48,658 per year

Market premia: £4,000 per year paid in 12 equal instalments. Applies to roles in Children’s Services, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

Basic salary: Up to £52,681 per year

Market premia: £7,000 per year, paid in 12 equal instalments. Applies to roles in Children’s Services, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

  • £3,000 per year. Payable after one years’ service in Medway – applies to all children’s social worker roles, excluding fostering, adoption and youth offending.

  • £2,000 per year. Payable after two years’ service in Medway – applies to fostering, adoption and youth offending.

Out of hours payment: £3,000 per year. Applies to roles in CSWT (Children's Social Work teams), assessment and children in care only.
