Project aims and objectives

The aims and objectives of the Medway Safeguarding Children Partnership (MSCP) project were to:

  • give the website a modern feel and design
  • make the website mobile responsive
  • make the website accessibility-friendly
  • create a new landing page focused on training.

What we did

Project stages included:

Meeting the service

We held virtual meetings with the service through the project. This was so we could:

  • gain a feel and understanding of what was expected
  • discuss ideas and thoughts
  • show examples and drafts
  • come up with a plan
  • report on progress.

Website build and design

The new website was built and designed by the Digital team using the Jadu platform.

The MSCP logo stayed the same. However, the web page styling and colour scheme were selected by us.

We also picked a range of images, which were narrowed down to just a handful by MSCP.

Furthermore, we incorporated new webpage widgets into the build that are not seen on our other website. For example, the ‘Report a concern’ button and slide out menu are new widgets built specifically for the MSCP website.

Content

Re-writing the content for MSCP was perhaps easier than it has been on other projects. The wording on the old website was correct, however it needed bringing up to date and refreshing.

Content we refreshed included:

  • introduction text for the homepage and landing pages
  • hyperlinked text for the homepage and landing pages
  • blue banner text
  • footer text
  • menu text.

A draft for each page was written in Microsoft Word and run by the service for feedback and changes.

Go-live

Once the content and design had been signed off,  we were ready to build in the live Jadu system.

MSCP write and updated their own website. We therefore had to agree a time slot where the Digital team could build in the content management system without the service publishing any other pages.

With a time slot agreed, we got to work with the build and applied the final styling to the website.

After a few checks, we handed Jadu back to the service.

Measure of success

Data comparing a 5-month period in 2020 and 2021 (20 January to 19 June) shows the redesigned website has attracted more users, who are spending more time on the website.

Our data shows:

  • there were 31,277 overall page views on the MSCP website in the first 5 months of 2021, compared to 26,394 in the first 5 months of 2020
  • unique page views in the first 5 months of 2021 hit 22,604, compared to 19,715 in 2020
  • the average time being spent on page has risen by 7 seconds, from 1 minute 4 seconds in 2020 to 1 minute 11 seconds in 2021
  • entrances, exits and bounce rates have also improved.

This is further highlighted when we drill down into specific pages.

For example, the homepage gained 6,132 page views and 4,607 unique page views in the first 5 months of 2021, compared to 5,861 page views and 4,379 in 2020.

“Thanks to the Digital team, the Medway Safeguarding Children Partnership website has never looked better with its new design, layout and images. It’s now easier to navigate and we have had many positive responses and comments from our partners.” MSCP
