Flats

Recycling

If you live in a flat you will either have access to a shared blue recycling bin or we will give you clear recycling sacks. Both are for:

  • cardboard
  • paper
  • magazines or newspapers
  • telephone directories
  • envelopes, junk mail and paper
  • glass bottles and jars
  • metal food and drink cans
  • clean metal foil
  • plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays and carrier bags.

After being collected, your dry mixed recycling is taken to the Materials Recovery Facility in Southwark, London. Watch the video about the recycling process

Black rubbish sacks placed in shared recycling bins will be considered general waste and will result in a contamination strike.

Flats with shared recycling bins will not receive a delivery of clear recycling sacks but can collect packs from local libraries. If you do not have a shared blue recycling bin, we will deliver a new roll of clear recycling sacks every 13 weeks. Additional reusable and clear recycling sacks can be collected from one of our community hubs.

Garden waste

If you live in a flat and have a private garden that you maintain, you can apply for a brown bin through our garden waste subscription service.

Food waste

We do not currently provide a food waste service for flats. We recommend that food waste is placed in your black rubbish sacks.

A new food waste service for flats will be introduced from April 2026.

Rubbish

General rubbish should be placed into a shared bin provided by the flat’s management company. All non-recyclable rubbish (including disposable nappies) should go into rubbish bags.

If you do not have access to a shared bin, please place your rubbish into black rubbish bags for kerbside collection.

Please ensure waste is spread out within your black sacks, that bags are not overfilled and that they are strong enough to stop any waste from spilling out. If in doubt, double bag or split your waste over multiple black sacks
