How to apply for permission

Apply online

You can apply for planning permission on the Planning Portal website. You’ll need to complete an online form, upload supporting documents and pay the correct fee.

When you apply online, you’ll get:

  • immediate confirmation on screen
  • step by step help and online advice
  • an online record of all your applications
  • to track your application.

Apply in writing

If you cannot apply online, you can apply in writing by downloading an application form from the Planning Portal.

Send your completed form and all documents listed in our validation checklist to: The Planning Service, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TR.

We do not accept emailed applications.

Pay online

If you apply in writing you can use our online form to pay the correct fee.

Do not use this form if you have applied on the Planning Portal.

About your data

The information you provide on the application form and in the supporting documents will be public information which will be made available on our website.

If you supply personal information belonging to a third party make sure you have their permission to do so. Include sensitive data such as, physical or mental health details in a separate annex.
