If you enjoy meeting people and have time on your hands then come and volunteer at your local library. All our volunteers get a 20% discount when hiring DVDs and audiobooks and lower fines for late books.

You must be aged 18 or over to apply for a library volunteer role.

Computer buddy

Our computer buddies help library users to get started and gain confidence in using a computer. They provide help using the UK Online course ‘Learn My Way’. They also help with navigating online forms, internet searching and email accounts.

Conversation cafe host

Our conversation cafe hosts encourage people to practise their spoken English language skills and gain confidence in their new skills. These groups are aimed at adults whose first language is not English.

The group will run at:

  • Rochester Library on Wednesday mornings
  • Gillingham Library on Wednesday afternoons.

Our eBook Buddies help library users discover our collections of eBooks and other digital items, on tablets, smartphones, laptops and eReaders.

Home library courier

Our home library couriers deliver and collect books and other items for all our home library users.

You’ll be a reliable person with a clean driving licence and your own car.

Volunteers at Grain Library

Grain Library needs reliable and responsible volunteers for its day-to-day running.

You’ll be happy to open and close the library, answer questions and queries from library visitors, arrange new displays, find and replace books, and chat with any visitors.

  • about any convictions
  • the details of 2 referees we can contact
  • your contact details
  • details of an emergency contact for you.
