Changes that affect reductions
If your details or circumstances change you must tell us within 21 days to make sure you’re paying the right amount of Council Tax.
Please tell us if:
- you change your name
- you change address
- you now live alone
- someone comes to stay with you
- you or one of your household are disabled
- you or someone you live with is a student
- you have an empty property
- your property is no longer empty
- a previously unfurnished property is furnished
- a previously uninhabitable property is now habitable.

If a reduction or exemption you claim is no longer needed, or if your change in circumstances is not listed above, you can tell us by emailing ctax@medway.gov.uk.
If you're no longer entitled to a reduction or exemption you must tell us within 21 days of the change or you could be fined £70.
Quote your payment reference number (as shown on your Council Tax bill) in the subject of your email. This will help us to deal with your enquiry.
