What you need to submit
Home improvements
If you’re planning to build an extension, outbuilding or other household development you may need to submit:
- an application for your development type (such as householder or strategic development)
- a location plan
- site plan and block plans
- elevations
- floor plans
- site sections
- roof plans
- heritage statements (if the property is listed or in a conservation area).
For most applications, a planning officer will visit the site and take photos to help them assess the application.
You may need to submit further information depending on your application.

Commercial and residential developments
If you’re applying for permission for a strategic development (9 to 49 residential units) or major development (over 50 residential units) you may need to submit:
- Affordable Housing Statements
- Air Quality Assessments
- Ecological Site Assessment
- Protected Species Survey
- Contaminated Land Assessment
- Landscape or Townscape Character Assessment
- ventilation or extraction details
- structural survey
