Support for foster carers

We offer a range of support, training and opportunities for all our foster carers.

Support from professionals

We offer support from professionals to help you with your role, support from professionals includes:

  • a supervising social worker and a fostering duty worker, 9am to 5pm
  • the Kent and Medway Out of Hours Service on weekends and bank holidays, 5pm to 9am
  • therapeutically trained Fostering Family Support Worker to support the placement when needed
  • peer mentors available to all carers when needed
  • 4 to 6 weekly visits from your allocated supervising social worker, and more if needed
  • Annual Reviews by an Independent Reviewing Officer
  • Targeted support with training, support and development

All our members of the professional network are also based under one roof to promote effective and efficient decision making in the best interest of the child.

Leisure and support groups

Support with leisure and activities including:

  • youth Service Mentors to develop a foster child’s interests in leisure, sport and arts
  • a Passport for Leisure for all Medway foster children
  • discounted entry to Leeds Castle, Planet Ice Gillingham and Monkey Bizz in Strood
  • the introduction of Baby Massage, Mindfulness and Yoga for carers

Support groups and events

  • Regular targeted support groups
  • appreciation events held for all carers
  • foster carer support group for carers of teenagers

Training and development

Training and development opportunities including:

  • an extensive Introduction Programme for newly approved carers
  • a detailed training agenda, with a variety available online, with flexibility for carers
  • training and support for the fostering family and members of their support network
  • Personal Development Plans to support your professional career path in fostering
