Coronavirus (COVID-19) updates

The Strand outdoor swimming and paddling pools will not open this year due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We understand that this will be disappointing news but the safety and wellbeing of visitors is our top priority.

The Strand is a popular Medway destination for families and is open during the summer months. There are a range of outdoor activities to choose from as well as the open air pool. 

The swimming facilities available include:

  • outdoor leisure pool
  • six 25 metre lanes for swimming
  • 300 metre lazy river
  • children’s slides
  • children’s paddling pool

Other pool facilities

Other pool facilities include:

  • inflatables that are available to buy on site
  • a poolside café
  • seating and sunbeds are not provided but you can bring your own

You can also bring your own food and drink on the day you visit. You can not bring glass, alcohol or BBQs.

Pool opening times

The summer season 2019 opens from Saturday 25 May 11am to 5pm on weekends only.

In very hot weather, the pool may be opened on additional weekdays after 25 May. This information will be posted on Medway Sport Facebook and Medway Sport Twitter the day before.

From Monday 22 July to Sunday 1 September, the pool will be open daily. 

2019 outdoor pool prices

These prices are an admission fee to the outdoor pool and all its facilities.

  • Adult per session: £5.40
  • Under 16s and over 60s per session: £3.40
  • Private pool hire: £182.70

All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Any Medway Sport membership that includes swimming is included at The Strand.

Free for Medway Free Swimming Card holders

Medway Free Swimming Card is currently available to use at the Strand for the summer season, although you cannot be issued this card from the Strand or on the day of your visit. You need to pre-organise this with any of our other centres in advance.
