The Medway Mile is back!

After a year off in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Medway Mile returns on Friday 10 September 2021.

Join thousands of other runners, joggers and walkers for this free mass participation family event.

Adam and team return to Strood Sports Centre on 28 August 2021 fresh from the Olympics for his legendary swim clinics where our younger swimmers can book to spend a day learning from the best in the business.

Join weekly sessions of free informal pop-up sport and activities for all abilities and ages.

Taking place in our greenspaces, in partnership with Child Friendly Medway, these sessions are family-friendly.

They run weekly from Saturday 17 July 2021 throughout the summer months.

If the Euros has whet your child’s appetite for the beautiful game, then pop along to our weekly come and play football sessions.

These sessions are running through the summer for young people aged 11 and over at various locations in Medway.

No need to book, just turn up and play.

Fancy a kick-about with a few mates but forgot the ball?

Don’t worry, we’ve teamed up with Medway Libraries so young people aged 11 to 18 years can ️borrow a ball️ for free from:

  • Gillingham Library
  • Lordswood Library
  • Walderslade Hook Meadow Library.

Play with it and then bring it back.

To borrow a b️all, all you need is a free Medway Libraries account.

Each Football Library has a good selection of️ football related books available to borrow and details of weekly football sessions available for 11 to 18 year olds to take part in.

Medway Sport, Medway Libraries, Medway Youth Service and StreetGames are collaborating with Alive and Kicking and Sport England to help to establish these 3 Football Libraries across communities in Medway.

Whether you are new to running or a seasoned runner, we have some organised runs taking place in parks across Medway this year.

The 3 races will culminate on Medway Park’s elite-standard athletics track in October.

This summer Medway Council and partner organisations are delivering free activity sessions and a nutritious meal for children aged 5 to 15 in receipt of benefit-related free school meals.

All activities are led by experienced and DBS checked staff.

Hollie at Strood Sports Centre is continuing the success of her previous Couch to 5K programme throughout the summer.

Weekly sessions are coach-led and will run in various locations around Strood.

The final 5k will be run on Medway Park athletic track.

Every Thursday, 10.30am to 11.15am, from 12 August for 9 weeks.

Tuesday support runs and sessions optional: 9.15am to 10am.

£6.80 for non-members. Free to members.

Use the break from school to develop your child’s water confidence and teach them a vital life skill with our crash course swimming lessons.

Suitable for beginners and available at Medway Park, Hoo and Strood Sports Centre.

Aquatic crash courses, such as Rookie Lifeguard and Mermaids, are suitable for those swimmers who already have basic swimming skills and are confident in deep water.

Medway’s popular open-air pool is now open for summer and celebrates its 125th anniversary.

We are celebrating this milestone through the sharing of memories and images sent in by members of the public via a virtual online exhibition.

This exhibition also formed part of the Estuary 21 associated festival which ran from 22 May to 13 June.

We’ve given the pool a makeover. This includes repainting our iconic elephant slide in the colours of the rainbow as a tribute to Medway’s keyworkers and the NHS for their hard work during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The pool is:

  • open weekends only from 29 May 2021
  • open daily from 24 July 2021 to 1 September 2021.

Daily session times, except on Wednesdays, are:

  • 10.30am to 1.30pm
  • 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Wednesday session times are:

  • 12.30pm to 3.30pm
  • 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

The elite wheelchair rugby league returns to Medway Park for Grand Final on Sunday 19 September 2021.

The Super League Grand Final will see Leyland Warriors take on Leeds Rhinos.
