The Mini Youth Games Series

The Mini Youth Games (MYG), supported by child-friendly Medway, is a competition and sports participation series available to all Medway primary schools.

Each competition is available to children in year 5 and year 6, but schools can also use talented year 4 children (when required).

The games have been running for more than 20 years, with around 4,000 primary school children now taking part in the series every year.

Prizes are awarded at each event and points are gained towards the overall MYG title. The events revolve around a fair play ethos and a fair play trophy is awarded at each event and there is an annual participation prize for the school that selects the largest number of children to take part in MYG events.

The games also provide opportunities for young volunteers, including officiating training, as well as showcasing some of the amazing clubs and club venues we have in Medway.

Child-friendly Medway

Child-friendly Medway supports the Mini Youth Games.

Our child-friendly initiative focuses on putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do, ensuring young people shape the future of Medway.

The programme launched this new initiative with a survey asking children and young people things like:

  • what it is like to grow up in Medway?
  • what are their favourite places?
  • how can we make Medway a more child-friendly place?

We had over 3,000 responses with some amazing ideas from children and young people.

We are still consulting children and young people to shape Medway's child-friendly future through:

  • child-friendly City Halls
  • focus groups
  • special activities and programming.
