How to apply for permission
Before you apply for planning permission for a listed building or a building in a conservation area we encourage you to engage us in pre-application discussions.

You apply for planning permission on the Planning Portal. You’ll need to complete the online form, upload supporting documents and pay the correct fee.
When you apply online, you’ll get:
- immediate confirmation on screen
- step by step help and online advice
- an online record of all your applications
- to track your applications
Apply in writing
You can also complete your application online and submit the documents and fees by post.
If you can’t complete an application online, you can complete an application form and submit it through the Planning Portal or directly to Medway Council by post to: The Planning Service, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TR.

The information you provide on the application form and in the supporting documents will be public information which will be made available on our website.
Please ensure that if you supply personal information belonging to a third party that you have their permission to do so and that any sensitive data in particular physical or mental health details are contained in a separate annex.
