Apply for a resident parking permit
Before you start you need:
- address proof, in your name and dated in the past 3 months, such as a utility bill or bank statement. We do not accept private tenancy agreements
- vehicle proof, such as a copy of your vehicle registration document (V5C) or insurance certificate. Or, if you drive a company vehicle, a letter from your employer on company headed paper to confirm your name, home address and details of the company vehicle you drive
Your proof must be clear and readable.
You need to supply a phone number, so we can take payment by card if your application is successful.

Email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or post it to Parking Services, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR.
Please include a phone number for card payment or enclose a cheque.
After you’ve applied
Once you’ve applied, we’ll let you know if your application is successful or not.
If your application is successful, we’ll phone you on the number you provided in your application to take payment (unless you enclosed a cheque with your paper application form in the post).
We may not call you straight away. If we can not get through to you first time, we’ll leave a voicemail with a phone number for you to call us back on. You have 30 days to make payment once we’ve approved your application.
We aim to get your permit to you within 10 working days of the date we received your application.
Once you receive your permit you must display it clearly in your vehicle or risk being issued with a parking fine, also known as a penalty charge notice (PCN).
If your application is not successful we’ll tell you why. If it’s due to unacceptable proof, you’ll be given one more opportunity to provide new proof before your application is closed and you’ll need to apply again.
