Today's news

Celebrate the Engineers’ freedom on Saturday
Everyone is invited to come and cheer on Medway’s local heroes as the Royal Engineers march through Brompton to celebrate being awarded the Freedom of the Borough by Medway Council. Full story»

Are you recycling?
The Cuxton Household Waste and Recyling Centre is extremely busy. This is causing traffic congestion on the A228. Please be patient if you need to take items to the centre and if possible, do not go there at peak times, such as bank holidays and weekends.

Alternative household waste and recycling centres are located at Shawstead Road, Chatham and Hoath Way in Gillingham.

Please remember that the council’s local contact points are the best way of contacting the council in person
While the majority of council staff are currently being relocated to Gun Wharf in Dock Road, Chatham, this is an administrative centre and does not have public facilities.

If you want to talk through issues with someone or request council services, it's best to use the contact points in Rainham, Strood, Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester.

For more information, phone Customer First on 01634 333333.

Medway Culture and Design Awards
From the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games this year until the start of the London 2012 Games, the UK will hold a four-year cultural celebration. The Medway Culture and Design Awards form part of Medway's cultural offer as we count down to the 2012 Games.

North Kent Walking Festival
Early summer is a great time to shake off the cobwebs, get outdoors, enjoy some fresh air and take in the views of the local countryside. The festival runs throughout June and is a great way to find new places to explore, learn more about the local area and meet new people.

Chapter and Temple Schools
Medway Council has issued formal notice of its proposal to discontinue Temple and Chapter Schools and create a new academy in Strood. You have until Friday, 23 May to object to or make comments on the proposal.
