Medway Big Splash brandingThe Medway Big Splash weekend showcases aquatics and water based activities at Medway's Sports Centres.

The Medway Big Splash 2018 will be run in January, starting on Thursday, 18 January with Mini Youth Games swimming event and completing Tuesday, 23 January with our Disability Youth Games swimming event.

Inspired to learn to swim, or to improve your stroke? Find out more about the Medway Sport Swim Academy programme for all ages. We offer a wide range of swimming lessons, from tiny babies through to adults who want to improve their stroke. Whatever the ability or need, we can help throughout the year.

Medway Sports Centres swimming pools will all host free family pool parties with pool inflatables and splash fun, music, inflatables and raft games with races and medals.

Saturday 20 January 2018

Centres: Hoo Sports Centre* and Splashes swimming pool

Times: 10.30am - 12.30pm* (*Hoo will start at 11am)

Times: 1.30pm – 3.30pm Big splash event

Sunday 21 January 2018

Centres: Medway Park and Strood Sports Centre

Times: 10.30am - 12.30pm

Also over the weekend our pool parties feature club and aquatic tasters sessions including aqua zorbs, water polo, scuba, kayaking and much more. Site specific timetables will be available to download as not every activity will be at every pool.

We recommend early booking to secure your place as places are limited to pool capacities. Please check our Swimming Pool Admission Policy For Children before booking.


Medway Sport Aquatic Development Centre FREE taster sessions

Our qualified instructors will also be offering the opportunity to try-out diving, Rookie Lifeguard, synchronised swimming and Royal Lifesaving Society water safety skills throughout the weekend.

*NEW for 2018* Distance Awards

New for 2018 will give swimmers the opportunity to achieve that coveted distance swimming award.  Swim England achievement badges from 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m to 1000m and the Medway Big Splash mile of 64 lengths.

Saturday 20 January - Strood Sports Centre and Hoo Sports Centre 8.30am-10am

Sunday 21 January - Medway Park 8.30am-10am and 3pm-5pm


Big Splash Team Challenge logoThe Kent & Medway Business Splash Team Challenge 2017

The 'It's a Knock-Out' style competition sees teams of four (to six) people battle it out in events including water polo, water volleyball, waboba, relay races, treasure hunt and a giant inflatable obstacle course. This year's event will see a workplace challenge competition Friday, 20 October at Strood Sports Centre, to find out more visit here.

Sunday, 21 January 2018 - 1pm-6pm at Strood Sports Centre.

The Big Splash Swim Challenge is now solely working with our charity partner Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust for this swimathon style event. All levels of fitness, all abilities and all ages are catered for and every participant receives a Big Splash certificate and medal.

You can choose to take on one of the following challenges:

Individual Challenges: 50m (2lengths), 1k (40lengths), 1.5k (60lengths), 2k (80lengths). 

Team challenges: 2k (80lengths) or 5k (200lengths) for up to 4 participants.

Fees will be £15 adults, £10 juniors or you will receive a sponsorship form to raise the equivalent or more to enter.


The Medway Big Splash Aquathlon

Sunday, 21 January 2018 - 1pm-6pm at Medway Park

We are delighted that this event will return for a second year ro Medway Park, the Aquathlon event is managed and run by our club partners Medway Tri.Big Splash aquathlon

To encourage all levels to take part in this multi race format, all competitors will complete a separate run and swim, with distances determined by age group and or confidence.

Times for each discipline are added together to determine the fastest time and winner in each category.

  • Race 1 - 150m swim then 1.5km run (9 to 14yrs)
  • Race 2 - 300m swim then 3km run (9yrs +)
  • Race 3 - 500m swim then 5km run (15yrs +)
