The Medway Big Splash 2018


The Medway Big Splash weekend showcases aquatics and water based activities at Medway's Sports Centres.

The Medway Big Splash 2018 will be run in January, starting on Thursday 18 January with Mini Youth Games swimming event and finishing Tuesday 23 January with our Disability Youth Games swimming event.

Inspired to learn to swim, or to improve your stroke? Find out more about the Medway Sport Swim Academy programme for all ages. We offer a wide range of swimming lessons, from tiny babies through to adults who want to improve their stroke. Whatever your ability or need, we can help throughout the year.

Please note that all The Big Splash pool parties are now full at all sites. 

Places are still available for Aquathlon (booking through Medway Tri website), and our distance badge swims and charitable big swim challenge all bookable online

Medway Big Splash inflatable

Medway Sports Centres' swimming pools will all host free family pool parties with pool inflatables, splash fun, music, inflatables and raft games with races and medals.

Medway Sport Aquatic Development Centre FREE taster sessions

Our qualified instructors will also be offering you the opportunity to try diving, Rookie Lifeguard, synchronised swimming and Royal Lifesaving Society water safety skills throughout the weekend.

Also over the weekend, our pool parties will feature club and aquatic taster sessions, including aqua zorbs, water polo, scuba, kayaking and much more.

Early lane swim will run at all our pools (except Splashes) so you don't miss the opportunity for your regular swim, with normal centre opening times until 8.30am. Please contact your centre to check these times.

We recommend early booking online to secure your place as places are limited to pool capacities.

New for 2018: Distance Awards

Swimmers now have the opportunity to achieve coveted Swim England  achievement badges for 100m, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m to 1000m, and the Medway Big Splash mile of 64 lengths. Open to all ages who can safely swim a minimal distance of 100m.

Saturday 20 January - Hoo Sports Centre 8.30am to 10am and Medway Park 3pm to 5pm

Sunday 21 January - Strood Sports Centre and Medway Park 8.30am to 10am

Please note you will need to be accompanied by a lane counter for this session. Certificates and badges will be available to purchase at reception for £3.50 on the day (subject to stock demand they may need to be ordered in).

The Kent & Medway Business Splash Team Challenge 2017Big Splash Team Challenge logo

The 'It's a Knock-Out' style competition sees teams of four (to six) people battle it out in events including water polo, water volleyball, waboba, relay races, treasure hunt and a giant inflatable obstacle course. This year's event saw a workplace challenge competition Friday 20 October for 10 workplace teams at Strood Sports Centre.

Sunday 21 January 2018 - 1pm to 6pm at Strood Sports Centre.

The Big Splash Swim Challenge is now solely working with our charity partner Medway NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund for this swimathon style event. All levels of fitness, all abilities and all ages are catered for and every participant receives a Big Splash certificate and medal.

You can choose to take on one of the following challenges:

Individual Challenges: 50m (2 lengths), 1k (40 lengths), 1.5k (60 lengths), 2k (80 lengths). 

Team challenges: 2k (80 lengths) or 5k (200 lengths) for up to 4 participants.

Fees will be £15 adults, £10 juniors or you will receive a sponsorship form to raise the equivalent or more to enter. We recommend early booking online to secure your place as places are limited to pool capacities. Sponsorship can also take place through the charity's Just Giving page.


The Medway Big Splash Aquathlon

Sunday 21 January 2018 - 1pm to 6pm at Medway Parkswimmer

We are delighted that this event will return for a second year at Medway Park. The Aquathlon event is managed and run by our club partners Medway Tri. 

Registration for the event is now open and can be done through Medway Tri.

To encourage all levels to take part in this multi-race format, all competitors will complete a separate run and swim, with distances determined by age group and or confidence.

Times for each discipline are added together to determine the fastest time and winner in each category.
