Junior Team of the Year

Junior Team of the Year - Sponsored by Avenue Tennis 

Avenue Tennis logoAwarded to the team that has achieved outstanding competitive success during the judging period. This is open to school teams, college teams or club sides. The category is open to teams of two people or more, so doubles pairs in racquet sports are included.

All team members must have been 17 years old or younger on 1 January 2016.


Junior Team of the Year 2016 Pilgrim School Table TennisGold - Pilgrim School Table Tennis Team

The Pilgrim School only got a table tennis team together in 2013 during breakfast club.  They then went on to hold an after school club on a Friday and entered a team in to the Medway Mini Youth Games. 

The school won the 2015 Mini Youth Games, the Kent Schools Championships, South East Championships and qualified for the South East National Semi Finals, where they eventually lost to last year’s national finalist winners, the only game they lost in the entire year.


Silver - Rainham Mark Under 13 Girls Handball Team

The Rainham Mark girls won the Medway and Kent secondary schools finals and went on to win the south east regional finals, which qualified them for the National Schools Handball Championships in June 2016. They lost the bronze medal match in extra time and finished fourth in the country overall.  The team train hard and have a positive team spirit.  The whole school has now adopted handball with large numbers of pupils taking part.


Bronze - Hollands and Blair Hurricanes

Hollands and Blair Hurricanes were crowned 2016 Under 8 ESF Champions in May 2016, qualifying for the ESF Grand Final where they came second in their group.  The ESF Festival is the largest youth festival in the UK.  Ian Wright, who watched the semi finals, said “With so many teams involved, being crowned ESF Champions is no mean feat, so congratulations to Holland & Blair Hurricanes.”
